Plenary Session: Analyzing Text Data
Christopher Zorn, Amber Boydstun, Tom Clark, Justin Grimmer, Kevin Quinn        
This roundtable will provide attendees with an introduction to the theoretical and practical details of methods for analyzing text as data. After an overview of different classes of methods for text data, topics will include data acquisition and cleaning, scaling textual content, classification of documents by topics, and the analysis of sentiment. Presentations will include discussions of software and practical examples.

Plenary Session: The Future of Big Data and Social Science 
Justin McCrary & Guido Imbens        
Predictive analytics is changing decision making from hiring, promotion, and separation decisions in the labor market; to pricing and diversification decisions in product markets; to trading decisions in the securities markets;  to e-discovery and litigation finance decisions; and beyond.  Predictive analytics also has the potential to rationalize regulatory actions, particularly those involving targeted compliance and enforcement decisions.  This roundtable will explore the extent to which the present and future of predictive analytics will change social science as well, and whether it should.

Plenary Session:  Evidence on Income and Wealth Inequality          
Emannuel Saez       
The plenary lecture will present evidence on income and wealth inequality gathered by a collective group of researchers in the World Top Incomes Database. The database includes top income and wealth shares time series over the long run for more than twenty countries. Saez will summarize the key empirical findings focusing particularly on the United States and discuss the role of technology and globalization, education, government regulations, and tax policy in explaining those empirical findings.

Keynote Speaker:  
Dr. Amy Gershkoff is the Director of Customer Analytics & Insights for eBay. Prior to joining eBay, she was the Chief Data Scientist for WPP, Data Alliance, where she worked across WPP’s more than 350 operating companies worldwide to create integrated data and technology solutions. Previously, she served as the Director of Media Planning at Obama for America, where she was the architect of President’s Obama’s advertising strategy and designed the campaign’s media optimization system.

A successful entrepreneur, Gershkoff co-founded Changing Targets Media, an advertising analytics company. Gershkoff has been named one of the nation’s “40 under 40” leading entrepreneurs and was featured in the Washington Post as one of the nation’s most prominent innovators. She was also named one of the Top 50 Women to Watch in Tech.Her articles have appeared in publications such as the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and Business Insider, and she has been a commentator on NPR, Bloomberg News, ABC, CSPAN, and for various print media outlets including the New York Times.

She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
