This new seminar will explore a wide range of issues related to food law and policy. Topics will likely include food safety, food labeling and marketing, regulation and patenting of genetically-modified organisms, farm subsidies, treatment of livestock, farm labor, organic farming standards, hunger and obesity, international trade in food, and promotion of local and sustainable agriculture. Students will read a variety of materials in preparation for weekly discussions and will each write a 30+-page research paper.

There are no prerequisites for this class. The course may fulfill the writing requirement with the agreement of the instructors.
