Learn about the application process for one of America’s most prestigious programs for leadership and public service.  Panelists include Diane Yu ’77, immediate past president of the White House Fellows Foundation and Association, and chief of staff and deputy to the president of New York University, and Jami Floyd ’89, White House Fellow alumna and anchor of her own daily program, Jami Floyd: Best Defense on the legal network In Session (formerly Court TV).

3:30 – 4:45 pm CLE Wine Law Master Class with Professor Richard Mendelson, Classroom 105, Boalt Hall
Earn CLE credit and learn about the diverse legal and public-policy issues facing the California wine industry with Richard Mendelson, who directs the new Program on Wine Law and Policy at Boalt Hall. He is the author of the recently published book, From Demon to Darling: A Legal History of Wine in America.

All graduates from classes 1959 and earlier are invited to a reunion breakfast with Boalt Hall Professor Richard Buxbaum ’53 and archivist William Benemann. This special gathering will be hosted by Borden Price ’50.

9:30 – 10:45 am Rebuilding the U.S. Financial System:  The Causes, Consequences and Regulatory Reform and Restructuring Responses to the Credit Crisis, Classroom 100, Boalt Hall
One year after the collapse and bailout of the nation’s largest financial institutions, Congress and the Obama Administration have made financial system regulatory reform and restructuring a top priority.  The panel will discuss the various proposals from the Administration, the Hill and others, their likelihood of successful adoption and implementation, and their effect on existing agencies, laws and regulations.

Professor Eric Talley, faculty co-director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Business, moderates the discussion with Michael Halloran ’65, Partner, Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, and former Counselor to the Chairman and Deputy Chief of Staff of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Nancy Wallace, Professor, Haas School of Business.

Boalt Hall Alumni Association Board President James McManis ’67 moderates a discussion of the challenges facing California with Dean Christopher Edley, Jr., former UC Regent Gerald Parsky, California Senator Joe Simitian ’77 and Professor David Gamage.

Enjoy lunch with friends and faculty and hear from James McManis ’67, president of the Boalt Hall Alumni Association. Special seating will be arranged for graduates in class years ending in 4 and 9 who are celebrating class reunions.

2:15 – 3:30 pm U.S. Supreme Court Term Review, Classroom 105, Boalt Hall
Join a panel of experts for this lively discussion of recent U.S. Supreme Court cases that addressed DNA evidence, employment discrimination, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the exclusionary rule, as well as predictions on the influence of newly appointed Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Jesse Choper, Earl Warren Professor of Public Law, will moderate and speak. Panelists include Herma Hill Kay, Barbara Nachtrieb Armstrong Professor of Law; Goodwin Liu, Associate Dean and Professor of Law; and Barry Scheck ’74, Professor of Law and Director, Innocence Project, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

3:45 – 5:00 pm The Future of U.S. Energy and Environmental Policy, Classroom 100, Boalt Hall
Hear the latest developments on environmental, natural resource and energy issues. Daniel Farber, Sho Sato Professor of Law; Director, Center for Law, Energy & the Environment, will moderate and speak with Steve Black ’89, Counselor to the Secretary at U.S. Department of the Interior; Bill Kissinger ’87, partner at Bingham McCutchen; and Alyssa Koo ’95, attorney, Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

6:30 – 11:00 pm Gala Reception and Dinner featuring Jeff Bleich ’89, The Palace Hotel, San Francisco
Come mingle with classmates and faculty over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the grand ballroom of the historic Palace Hotel and join reunion chair Terry O’Reilly ’69 in recognizing the 2009 class campaign volunteers. Dinner will follow at 7:30 pm and feature remarks from Jeff Bleich ’89, special counsel to President Obama. Special seating will be arranged for graduates in class years ending in 4 and 9 who are celebrating class reunions. Music and dancing afterward!

“Fun and Games: The Other Side of the Law School” Exhibit, Library Reading Room, Boalt Hall
From pitching pennies at the steps of the old Boalt Hall to the latest impertinent issue of the “Boalt Briefs” law students at Berkeley Law have found ways of relieving the stress of studying. In a anew exhibition now on view in the display cases of the Reading room, see an array of artifacts from the performing arts, sports competitions and literary productions covering nearly eighty years in the life of the law school.
