In this course, we will study the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, focusing on the Constitution’s protections for religion and speech. Cases and doctrines will be examined both from a historical perspective and in light of current issues, with attention to developments in technology, culture, and society, and to the views of a changing Supreme Court.
Please note that students may use either Dean Chemerinsky's dedicated First Amendment casebook or his larger Constitutional Law casebook, if they already own it.
