Zenichi Shishido is a widely respected scholar in the fields of corporation law, commercial transactions, international transactions and law and economics. He has been a member of Seikei's faculty since 1983 and a full professor there since 1994. Over the past decade, he has served as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and Columbia University Law School. His current visit is his third to Boalt Hall, following stints as a visiting scholar (1985-87) and visiting professor (2002). He also has served as adjunct professor at the Tokyo University Faculty of Law.
Outside the academic realm, Shishido has worked extensively in a series of advisory positions for Japan's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). He has published four editions of his book Kaishaho Nyumon (An Introduction to Corporate Law) (1991) and a multitude of articles on corporate organization and governance in English and Japanese. Among his notable publications in English are "Reform in Japanese Corporate Law and Corporate Governance: Current Changes in Historic Perspective" in the American Journal of Corporate Law (2001) and "Japanese Corporate Governance: The Hidden Problems of Corporate Law and Their Solutions" in the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law (2000).
