Property is a core legal and social institution that defines the relationships among people with respect to things. This course will introduce property law and theory. We will discuss the question of how ownership and property rights are structured and explore some of the major theories of property. We will cover different types of property interests in a variety of resources, both tangible and intangible. The course will survey estates and future interests in land, concurrent and marital ownership, leaseholds and servitudes, and eminent domain and regulatory takings.
