This course provides students with an opportunity to experience the trademark law practice. After reviewing the fundamentals of trademark law, students will work through a series of simulations of trademark practice activities and proceedings, including selecting trademarks and conducting due diligence, registering trademarks, drafting a complaint, use of survey experts, preliminary injunction briefing and argument, settlement conference, summary judgment briefing and argument, and UDRP proceedings.

Students are required to have taken Intellectual Property Law. Enrollment in the class will be limited to 18 students. Students will be evaluated based on their performance on the simulations. Real-time attendance at all sessions is expected.

This course will be by application, please complete the application attached to the Supplemental File on the course page. Applications are due Friday, April 23, 2021 with decisions made the week after. After this date, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.


Attendance at the first class is mandatory for all currently enrolled and waitlisted students; any currently enrolled or waitlisted students who are not present on the first day of class (without prior permission of the instructor) will be dropped. The instructor will continue to take attendance throughout the add/drop period and anyone who moves off the waitlist into the class must continue to attend or have prior permission of the instructor in order not to be dropped.
