Materials From Other Libraries and Storage

Berkeley Law offers different options for obtaining materials from other libraries and from storage, depending on what type of patron you are:

Use the Faculty Services webpage to get materials from any library or, if you prefer, initiate your own requests.

Borrowing from Other Libraries

The fastest way to get materials from other libraries depends on where you can find it. See if it is available (and not checked out or missing) at an on-campus library; do not request materials available here on campus. Check libraries using the following list of sources, in the order listed—

Libraries on Campus

Cal 1 or Library Card required

If you find the item in the OskiCat catalog go to the campus library that has the material and check it out using your Cal 1 (Cal ID) or Library Card.

Consult this map of campus libraries if you need help finding the library.

Expedited ILL

CalNet ID required

Use this form to borrow materials from:

Use the paper form available at the reference desk to borrow materials from:

You will receive an email when the material is ready for pick-up at the Circulation Desk.

Other Libraries (including other UCs and research libraries worldwide)

Cal 1 Card or Library Card required

If you find the item in the Melvyl catalog, click on the Request button in the catalog record and fill out the form.

You will receive an email when the material is ready for pick-up at Room 133 in the Doe Library. If you would like to check the status of your ILL request, use UC’s My ILL Requests tool. See the FAQ here for more information.

More detailed instructions for this process available in video here:

Please see the FAQ here. If you still have questions or if you have trouble with any part of this process, please email circadmin@law.berkeley.edu.

Other Libraries

If you strike out in both OskiCat and Melvyl, please consult with a reference librarian to explore your other options.

Renewing from Other Libraries

Materials from most on-campus libraries may be renewed online or in person at the library where you picked it up. If you found it through OskiCat, you can renew it online at MyOskiCat.

Materials borrowed via Expedited ILL (from UC Davis/Hastings/Stanford Law Libraries) may be renewable on a limited basis. Contact circadmin@law.berkeley.edu to see if your item can be renewed.

Materials borrowed from other UC campuses or non-UC libraries may be subject to limitations on renewals. Contact the Interlibrary Borrowing office at the Main Library if you have questions on an item you picked up at Doe Room 133.

Items Located in On-Site Storage

Material in LawCat that lists 'Request to Retrieve' as the location, is shelved in one of two on-site storage areas within the law school. To access this material, work with someone at the Patron Services Desk. Please be sure to note specific information about the item you need, e.g. volume number, year, etc.

Material in LawCat that lists Room 135 or Room 195 as the location, is shelved in one of two on-site storage areas within the law school. To access this material, log in and use the 'Place hold' button.

Material is paged once a day, Monday to Friday. You may pick up your material after 3:00 p.m. at the Circulation Desk. We will hold it for seven days.

If there was a problem with fulfilling your request, we will attempt to contact you via email at the address listed in your request

NRLF Storage

For material that a library catalog lists as located at NRLF (the Northern Regional Library Facility), look up the item by title in OskiCat, and in the record for the item:

  • if you want an article or other reasonable page range to be copied and mailed or delivered electronically, click on 'Request an article from NRLF' in the list of Links to online versions
  • if you want the entire volume, use the Request (button near the top)
