Securing Cyberspace: A National Priority (UC Berkeley School of Information)

Featuring: Dr. Frederick R. Chang, Director of the Darwin Deason Institute for Cyber Security, the Bobby B. Lyle Endowed Centennial Distinguished Chair in Cyber Security, and professor at SMU.

Critical information systems remain vulnerable to attack by a wide range of potential adversaries. Unfortunately, the risks are real and the problem continues to worsen in scope. This talk will describe the current and evolving nature of the threat and will highlight dangers in cyberspace today. The talk will discuss some important considerations at the federal level, as today’s cyber security problem has become an issue of national security and of economic security. The talk will address the interdisciplinary nature of the problem and will discuss a number of critical technical, social, policy and privacy issues associated with the challenge of cyber security.

US-China IP Conference

The 3rd US-China IP Conference will bring together senior policymakers, academics and international practitioners from China and the U.S. to discuss five important topics: (1) Revisions to the US and Chinese Copyright Law; (2) IP issues related to the entertainment industry; (3) Role of specialized IP courts; (4) Updates on patent and trade secrets legislation and protection; and (5) Challenges and strategies in cross-border IP enforcement.

The conference is an annual event co-hosted by Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, Berkeley Center for Law and Technology and China Renmin University IP Academy. 4.0 hours of MCLE available. Loyola Law School, Los Angeles is a State Bar MCLE-approved provider.

BCLT Administrative Assistant (work study, if applicable)

BCLT seeks a student administrative assistant to provide clerical and operational support to BCLT staff. The administrative assistant will be responsible for a variety of daily and periodic duties as governed by the Center’s needs and assigned by the Associate Director or other designee. Examples of such duties are: providing general office support, updating and printing BCLT promotional materials (such as name tags, flyers, event programs and other marketing pieces), and updating the BCLT website as directed.

Requirements: Good interpersonal skills and comfort in receiving close supervision, as well as in working independently. Computer proficiency in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access). Database, InDesign, Photoshop, and other Adobe products required. Salesforce DB, Adobe Illustrator, and Dreamweaver a plus. Superior organizational, written (spelling, grammar, syntax), and oral communication skills (clarity, logic). Very strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, show initiative, persevere until tasks are thoroughly completed, and exercise sound judgment. Ability to commit to a regular, part-time work schedule, maximum of 20 hours per week and no fee remission.
