We hope you had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. Last week we had an amazing turnout at the BCLT 1L Orientation - thank you to those who attended. If you missed the Orientation, please check out the 2014-2015 New Student Handbook (pdf) and submit the 1L Questionnaire (doc) by Monday, September 22. If you would like a hard copy of the New Student Handbook, it is available for pick up in the BCLT office (421 Boalt Hall, North Addition).

Today is the Student Activities Fair from 12:45-2:00 PM on Heyman Terrace, where you have a chance to learn about all the Berkeley Law student groups. The Intellectual Property Scholarship Seminar begins today at 3:35 PM with Tesla Motors: Intellectual Property, Open Innovation, and the Carbon Crisis by Matthew Rimmer from Australian National University College of Law (RSVP information below).

Next week, we will begin our twice weekly BCLT/BTLJ Law & Tech Speaker Series. On Tuesday we will feature David S. Bloch, Partner at Winston & Strawn LLP and on Thursday we will feature Gabriel M. Ramsey ‘00 and Matthew Poppe, Partners at Orrick, Herrington, & Sutcliffe LLP.

This seminar will explore cutting-edge issues in intellectual property scholarship, with students commenting upon forthcoming articles by scholars here at Berkeley and elsewhere. Held every Tuesday, a different speaker will be featured each week.

BCLT/BTLJ Lunch Speaker Series

The Berkeley Center for Law & Technology and the Berkeley Technology Law Journal (BCLT/BTLJ) will kick off its first presentation speaker series for the Fall semester next week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:45-1:45 PM during the Fall semester, the series features lunch presentations on a current legal issue or case told from the practitioners’ perspective.

Lunch is served for students staying through the entire presentation. RSVPs are not required; however, you must sign in upon receiving your lunch.

Research Assistants for Professors Kenneth Bamberger and Deirdre Mulligan - Fall 2014

Professors Bamberger and Mulligan are seeking several research assistants to take on meaningful work involving information privacy, law, and technology. Projects involve, among other things, work comparing the US and Europe, work at the intersection of copyright and privacy, and work on technology in administrative decisionmaking.

Research and Policy Analyst (Contractor: Part-time)

E9 Energy Insight is a timely and comprehensive suite of information resources that provide a systematic “roadmap” of the new and ongoing activities of the state commissions. They are looking for research and policy analysts who will be responsible for gathering information from a specific portfolio of utility commission websites based on defined procedures and protocols. Research will be supplemented with direct interviews with public utility commission staff, advisors and other stakeholders.

This is a great opportunity to learn first-hand about the landscape of state energy policy, with a strong focus on clean energy and consumer technologies. This position is part-time with flexible hours that can be customized to accommodate academic studies or other professional obligations. Analysts will work with current subscribers, including Nest, Honeywell, Enernoc, Landis+Gyr, Itron, EDF, Navigant and many others.
