“Platform liability and Internet users’ speech rights”

The Supreme Court recently referred to platforms like Twitter and Facebook as “the modern public square.” What does that really mean for the free expression rights of Internet users? When might an individual have a cognizable claim against a government — or against the platform itself — to vindicate speech or information rights? Daphne Keller confronted these questions under legal systems around the world as Associate General Counsel for Google, handling issues ranging from copyright to the “Right to Be Forgotten.” She will discuss lessons from those experiences, and how the same questions may play out under US law.

Gregoire sandwiches will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

Co-sponsored by the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology and the Berkeley Technology Law Journal.
