Joelle Emerson is the co-founder and CEO of Paradigm, a strategy firm that helps tech companies build more diverse and inclusive organizations.  Paradigm has worked with a number of Silicon Valley’s top firms, including Pinterest, to develop and implement innovative diversity initiatives. Prior to founding Paradigm, Joelle was an attorney with Equal Rights Advocates.  Joelle joins us to discuss her career and how her company uses qualitative and quantitative analysis to help diversify Silicon Valley.

The Clinical Program Faculty and Students -- Death Penalty Clinic, East Bay Community Law Center, Environmental Law Clinic, International Human Rights Law Clinic, Policy Advocacy Clinic, and the Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic -- invite all Berkeley Law students to their information fair on Monday, October 5 from 12:30-20 pm in 105 Boalt.
 
We will start with lunch at 12:30 followed by a short presentation on the clinical program and the application process for Spring 2016.  Afterwards, each Clinic will have faculty and current students present to answer your questions about opportunities available.

Andy Gass is an associate in the San Francisco office of Latham & Watkins.  He is a member of the firm’s Global Antitrust and Competition Practice Group, with a special focus on Internet and technology markets. When not serving as counsel of record for companies such as Pandora Media, Inc. in federal court copyright litigation, Andy Gass can be found lecturing at Berkeley Law where he currently teaches Copyright Law. He is the Chair-elect of the ABA Intellectual Property section’s committee on Sound Recordings and Performing Artists. This talk will address current issues with music copyright and digital platforms and conclude with Q&A.

Boalth Healthcare & Biotech Society (BHBLS) Presents: “The ACA is Here to Stay: Your Health Insurance Post-King v. Burwell”

King v. Burwell dealt the latest blow to opponents of the Affordable Care Act (“ACA”) by upholding one of its main tenets. While the Act's language might be ambiguous, SCOTUS thought its purpose was clear. The Boalt Healthcare & Biotech Law Society hosts Professor Syed (Berkeley Law) to discuss the current state of the US healthcare system, the ACA's most recent saga, and its implications.

Law students are invited to apply to the Law Student Reporters Program. Participants selected for the Program are given complimentary registration to the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law’s 31st Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference in Bethesda, MD on April 6-8, 2016.
 
During the event, students attend the Section’s premier CLE programs and network with Intellectual Property Law attorneys from across the nation while reporting on the content of the CLE programming via social media.

The 2015-2016 Big Ideas Contest is underway with up to $300,000 in prizes available to graduate and undergraduate students who have creative solutions to pressing social challenges. The contest features a variety of categories this year, and given the scope of your organization's work, we feel that the Information Technology for Society category would be of particular interest to students affiliated with UC Berkeley’s Center for Law & Technology! 
 
Student teams are required to submit a 3-page pre-proposal by 12pm PST on November 12th. To learn more about the rules and eligibility requirements of the category, please visit our Big Ideas website. We are holding a special Online Information Session for remote teams that will be webcast on October 13th at 3:00pm PST, where we can answer students’ questions about the contest.
