Animal Rights Trial Field Trip

Just an hour north of campus, animal rights activists are being criminally prosecuted for rescuing animals from factory farms. And next Friday, October 6th, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is organizing a field trip out to Sonoma County Courthouse to watch this trial together in person!  If you’re interested in coming, please fill out this registration form as soon as possible.  To learn more about the trial, you can view these press releases and amicus briefs issued by Dean Chemerinsky, the ACLU, and Harvard Law in support of the activists. And here’s a New York Times article from one of the previous trials, which resulted in a historic acquittal by jury nullification.

Judge John Gleeson at  Berkeley Law -           Please join us for a conversation on criminal justice and the power of pro bono with Judge John Gleeson, moderated by Chesa Boudin, Executive Director of the Berkeley Criminal Law & Justice Center.              Judge Gleeson will speak about his work as a United States District Court Judge, Commissioner of the United States Sentencing Commission, and role as Partner and Co-Chair of the Pro Bono Committee at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. Judge Gleeson will speak specifically to his leadership of the firm's compassionate release work through the The Holloway Project. Over the past three-plus years, the firm has obtained sentence reductions for 46 inmates serving so-called “stacked” sentences imposed pursuant to 18 USC 924(c). The reductions average 35 years in length.  Wednesday, March 20th | 12:50pm-2:00pm. Lunch will be served!
