About us:
The Men of Color Alliance (MOCA) provides a supportive space for African American, Asian & Pacific Islander American, Latino, Native American, and other people who identify as men of color at Berkeley Law. Through cultural, social, professional, educational and/or community service programs, MOCA will create a community to support these men of color, thereby enriching their educational experience at Berkeley Law School.
The organization aims to provide a community for men of color to matriculate into and succeed at Berkeley Law. MOCA also serves as a support and mentorship network, linking current students to each other and to Berkeley Law alumni.
The three main foci of MOCA are as follows:
Social/Professional Networking
- Planning social events to promote interaction and mentorship between men of color, both at the law school and throughout the University.
- Organizing events to facilitate mentorship between and amongst students and alumni/professionals.
Academic/Mentorship
- Ensuring incoming first-years are paired up with second-year and third-year MOCA mentors and planning events to establish the mentorship network.
- Planning workshops to aid incoming first-years and other MOCA members in their study habits.
Activism/Advocacy
- Providing a forum to discuss issues affecting men of color at Berkeley Law and within the legal community as a whole.
- Working with existing student groups to increase the number of faculty of color and recruit and retain students of color at Berkeley Law School.
- Volunteering with organizations that serve to mentor men of color.
