Launched in January 2025 and led by Director Alina Ball, Berkeley Law’s Social Enterprise Clinic serves as transactional counsel helping for-profit and nonprofit businesses that use market-based strategies to advance racial and economic justice. At its recent kickoff event, clinic students took on a unique challenge — building the tallest freestanding structure out of spaghetti, tape, and string to support a single marshmallow. The exercise highlighted key principles of effective legal practice: iterative strategy over static planning (quality legal work relies on stress testing and continuous refinement, not just theory), agile collaboration (meeting tight client deadlines requires rapid alignment, active listening, and team-first execution), and a focus on client outcomes (delivering real-world results).
