Professor Robert Cooter, a pioneer in the field of law and economics and a mainstay of UC Berkeley Law’s faculty for over 40 years, passed away on Sept. 8. The winner of numerous awards for his influential scholarship, Cooter was a founding director of the American Law and Economics Association and served as its president. Also part of UC Berkeley’s Department of Economics faculty, he was a vital figure in the law school’s Jurisprudence and Social Policy Program and well known as a generous academic, mentor, and teacher.
