Berkeley Law’s Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice hosted an orientation for new students Aug. 17, introducing them to the array of social justice and public interest offerings at the school. Available upcoming lunchtime programs this semester include Core in Context (where professors of required first-year courses Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law, and Civil Procedure discuss how their classes interact with real-world equity issues) and Critical Foundations (introducing students to advanced frameworks such as Critical Race Theory, feminist jurisprudence, and the sociology of law that examine how legal systems shape power and social control). In addition, Ruth Chance lectures and related events bring prominent social justice practitioners to discuss current cases, community legal practices, and strategies for social change.
