Rising 3L Neil Gallagher won UC Berkeley’s prestigious Chancellor’s Award for Civic Engagement, given each year to a single undergraduate student, graduate student, student group, and staff member for their community contributions. Gallagher founded and runs the nonprofit Preserving the Stories, which has conducted over 200 interviews to document the memories and insights of military veterans. He has co-led the student-led pro bono project Legal Obstacles Veterans Encounter, was involved in three student journals, took an active role in the Post-Conviction Advocacy Project and Military Veterans at Berkeley Law, and is spearheading a partnership between San Quentin Rehabilitation Center’s veterans group and student veterans groups at Berkeley Law and the university’s Haas School of Business.
