Spurred by years of research from Berkeley Law’s Policy Advocacy Clinic and East Bay Community Law Center, Alameda County on Dec. 4 became America’s second county to eliminate criminal justice fees for individuals. Findings saw an unequal impact on people of color and that the fees fueled poverty while adding barriers to housing, employment, and reentry.
