Stephen Sugarman

Stephen Sugarman, a beloved professor at Berkeley Law since 1972, died Dec. 26 after a four-year battle with kidney cancer. A prolific scholar and influential figure in education, tort, and insurance law, he twice served as Berkeley Law’s associate dean and played a major role in litigating the case that equalized public education funding among California school districts.
