Professor Seth Davis was recently elected to the American Law Institute (ALI), joining 27 of his current or retired Berkeley Law colleagues who are members of the prestigious group. Three alumni — Stanford Law School Professor Easha Anand ’14, University of Denver Sturm College of Law Professor Sam Kamin J.D. ’96, Ph.D. ’00, and Girard Sharp partner Sarah London ’09 — were also among the 49 new members.
Davis, who joined the Berkeley Law faculty in 2018, is also the faculty director of the school’s Center for Indigenous Law & Justice. His research explores questions of sovereignty, responsibility, and redress as they arise in both public law and private law, focusing upon administrative law, the federal courts, federal Indian law, fiduciary law, and tort law.
ALI was created 95 years ago to help clarify and simplify the law and its administration. The institute does this by publishing Restatements of the Law, Model Codes, and Principles of Law that carry powerful influence in courts, legislatures, legal scholarship, and legal education.
Participants include prominent judges, lawyers, and professors who contribute to law’s development in existing and emerging areas.
