PLP-West Point Faculty Exchange Program

Berkeley Law and the Public Law & Policy Program (PLP) are committed to providing students with opportunities to enhance their educational experiences. We believe that a robust faculty exchange program strengthens the Berkeley Law student experience by exposing students to a variety of academic perspectives and points of view. Our hope is that a faculty exchange program will broaden the worldview of every Berkeley Law student.

To this end, PLP has established an exchange program between Berkeley Law and West Point. The U. S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year, co-educational, federal, liberal arts college located 50 miles north of New York City. It was founded in 1802 as America’s first college of engineering and continues today as the world’s premier leader-development institution, consistently ranked among top colleges in the country. Its mission remains constant—to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the U. S. Army.

In Fall 2019, West Point professor Robert Barnsby taught the Law of War at Berkeley Law. In 2022, senior fellow Judge Janice Rogers Brown will visit West Point to teach a course in constitutional law. We expect these initial visits to be followed by regular exchanges of faculty for teaching and collaborating on research.
