Call for Research Fellowship Applications
The Law, Economics, and Politics Center (LEAP) at Berkeley Law is now accepting applications for Graduate Student Fellows for the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications are due January 31, 2023. Decisions are ordinarily made during February or March.
Please submit your application via this Google Form.
LEAP invites applications for research support for UC Berkeley PhD and JSD students in the social sciences (economics, business, political science, sociology, law, jurisprudence and social policy, and public policy), especially those whose research lies at the intersection of law and some social science discipline. Preference in the selection of LEAP Graduate Student Fellows will be given to those early in their PhD or JSD programs who are writing a research paper on a subject that combines one of the above disciplines with law.
Your application should have a project title, a summary of your project in 50 words or less, and a description of your project in 600 words or less, exclusive of references. Organize your description into the following sections: motivation; the research question; significance; methodology; type of journal where the paper might someday be published; and status of project–if you have begun the project describe what you have done thus far and estimate when you will have a draft paper completed and ready for distribution as a discussion paper. In addition, enclose a one-paragraph cover letter to Professor Aaron Edlin. Also enclose a CV, and a Berkeley transcript (unofficial is fine). Please combine all documents into a single PDF file with your name as the file name.
Your research paper produced with the aid of the fellowship will be distributed as part of the Law, Economics, and Politics Center working paper series.
There will also be a conference for Graduate Student Fellows to present their work in the Spring of their fellowship year.
Past Graduate Student Fellows are welcome to reapply. Current and past Graduate Student Fellows can be found on the LEAP People page.
Awards will be $6,000 to $10,000.
