Intern Testimonials

“In Fall 2024, I took an eye-opening course with Professor Lober in the Gender and Women’s Studies Department that profoundly shaped my academic and career trajectory. The course deepened my commitment to social justice and human rights, ultimately inspiring me to pursue a path in law. In Spring 2025, I contributed to research examining the use of artificial intelligence in law enforcement and its role in reinforcing systemic inequality through predictive policing, facial recognition, and biased algorithms. Through this work, I strengthened my legal research and writing skills—an area I had been eager to develop as an intern with the Criminal Law and Justice Center. I also gained a deeper understanding of how AI can uphold oppressive systems, which sharpened my ability to think critically about strategies for combating systemic inequities in an age of rapidly advancing technology” — Zhena Omojola, CLJC Intern, 2025-2026

“I was drawn to the CLJC internship to explore the legal field as an undergraduate, and what I gained was much more: a deeper understanding of how to leverage the law to drive social change. Through conducting substantive legal research and supporting community-based initiatives like reentry events, I saw how policy, law, and advocacy intersect to create real impact. I also have had the chance to learn from amazing co-interns and faculty mentors who push my thinking and help me grow. It’s been an incredibly meaningful experience that reaffirmed my commitment to justice work”— Arshi Chawla, CLJC Intern, 2024-2026

“I was initially drawn to the CLJC because it offered supervised research experience supporting criminal justice advocacy, where I could see the direct impact of the work I would complete. I also noticed that the center brings together ambitious people from a wide range of backgrounds, and after initially speaking with fellow members, I knew it was an environment I wanted to be part of” — Colin Rajabi, CLJC Intern 2025-2026
