Melanie Brazzell, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Civic Power Lab at Harvard Kennedy School and a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley Law School’s Center for Criminal Law & Justice. Melanie is currently finishing their book manuscript on the pasts, presents, and futures of the movement for transformative justice. They use participatory research with movement collaborators in the U.S. and transnationally to study non-punitive, non-carceral, and community-based responses to gender-based violence. This is part of a larger research agenda on civic action to address forms of exclusion and violence. During their time as a visiting scholar at the Center, Melanie will continue their community-based research with local restorative and economic justice organization, Restore Oakland.
