Berkeley Law released the new report Wasting Opportunities: How to Secure Environmental & Clean Energy Benefits from Municipal Solid Waste Energy Recovery in May 2016. The report recommends options for California to develop a set of standards for measuring and balancing the life-cycle costs and benefits of various waste management methods, including energy conversion. With Californians sending 30 million tons of waste to landfills annually, after reduction, recycling and composting, the leftover trash stream may present an opportunity to recover energy, using new and possibly cleaner technologies. But we must have reliable information to ensure we secure the benefits and minimize the risks.
Please join us for an in-person briefing on the report findings, featuring expert speakers representing government, NGOs, and industry.
