2010 Census data were recently released for California. One of the most important uses of those data will be to redraw election district lines all over the state, from US Congressional districts down to local school board districts. In addition, for the first time, California’s Congressional and state legislative districts will be drawn by a group of citizens — the Citizens Redistricting Commission — instead of the legislature. This Commission has been meeting since December and will start taking public testimony on Saturday April 9.
