Farah Diaz-Tello is an attorney whose career is dedicated to the pursuit of reproductive justice, with a focus on dignity in pregnancy and across the spectrum of pregnancy outcomes. Prior to coming to the SIA Legal Team, Farah was a Senior Staff Attorney at National Advocates for Pregnant Women, and brings over 8 years of experience working at the intersection of reproduction and criminalization. While at NAPW, she developed and directed the organization’s programming in human rights and Birth Justice, represented women and amicus curiae groups in pre-trial and appellate proceedings, and designed and conducted continuing education trainings for lawyers, judges, physicians, and midwives. She is a frequent lecturer and has presented on criminalization of pregnancy and rights in childbirth around the world. Before that, she worked with the City University of New York School of Law’s International Human Rights Clinic to raise the voices of Nicaraguan feminists exposing the suffering caused by their nation’s blanket ban on abortion to the UN Human Rights Committee, and to hold Mexico accountable in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for failing to address the murders of hundreds of women in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Farah has provided legal analysis to TV, radio, and print publications, and is the author of Invisible Wounds: Obstetric Violence in the United States (Reproductive Health Matters), and When the Invisible Hand Wields a Scalpel (City University of New York Law Review), as well as several commentaries for Rewire News. Farah serves on the board of directors of Backline, including two years as its president, and is the interim clerk for the board of the Family Law Cannabis Alliance. An alumna of the City University of New York School of Law, where she was a Haywood Burns Fellow in Civil and Human Rights, she is a proud Texan and graduate of the the University of Texas at Austin.
