2024 Berkeley Forum on Corporate Governance | Paper Award Competition

Berkeley Law

The Berkeley Center for Law and Business will host the annual Berkeley Forum for Corporate Governance in San Francisco, on November 12-13, 2024. In the context of the forum, we will also host an academic symposium focusing on ESG-related topics (broadly defined) and include 8-10 papers, two of which will be selected to each receive the 2024 Berkeley Center for Law and Business Best Paper Award and a $10,000 prize. We will select 8 to 10 papers as finalists. If selected for the award or as a finalist, it is required that one of the paper’s authors be available to present the paper in-person at both the forum and the academic symposium. The symposium will take place on November 15, 2024, providing all finalists with the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback.

The goal of this competition is to highlight current legal research in ESG issues and bring together leading legal scholars, practitioners, and investors. To encourage all scholars to participate, we will award one prize to a junior scholar (that have completed up to seven years since their first tenure-track appointment) and one prize to a senior scholar (that have completed 8 or more years since their first tenure-track appointment). Last year’s winners were:

  • Emilie Aguirre, The Social Benefits of Control (Junior Category)
  • Yaron Nili, Peer Group Governance (Senior Category)

Please follow the guidelines below:

  • Submissions must be unpublished papers by the submission date, though they may have been accepted for publication or under revise and resubmit.
  • All papers must be submitted in English.
  • Faculty and researchers affiliated with University of California, Berkeley School of Law are not eligible to participate.
