Overview
The Berkeley Law ESG and Open Innovation Fellowship Program for Postdoctoral Scholars is a pioneering program that combines intensive in-person learning experiences at UC Berkeley with virtual engagement and research opportunities. Designed for postdoctoral scholars with PhDs or equivalent degrees as well as highly accomplished practitioners, this program aims to advance global scholarship in sustainability and ESG principles through cross-cultural collaboration and academic excellence.
Program Structure
The program runs from January 2025 to January 2026 and consists of five stages:
- Immersion Week in Berkeley (March 10-16, 2025)
- 7 days of intensive learning along with self-study
- Berkeley Corporate + Climate Summit – March 11, 2025
- ESG fundamentals and strategic discussions
- Silicon Valley institutional visits
- Campus engagement and cultural experiences
- Virtual Engagement and Research (February – July 2025)
- Monthly online faculty engagements
- Individual research project development
- Access to ESG University curriculum resources
- Advanced Workshop (August 2025)
- 5-7 days of advanced coursework
- Research methodology discussions
- Supplementary ESG-focused courses
- Special forums and campus events
- Research Development (September – November 2025)
- Continued virtual engagement
- Research progression
- Regular academic interactions
- Final Symposium (January 2026)
- Scholarly work presentation
- Formal certification ceremony

Eligibility and Cohort Size
- PhD or equivalent degree or work experience required
- Cohort size: 5-20 participants
- International scholars welcome
Program Fee and Logistics
- The fee covers all program-related academic expenses
- Participants are responsible for:
- Travel arrangements
- Accommodation
- Meals (except during program events)
- Required documentation for studying in the United States
