Does a warming climate change hurricane risk—and if so, what does that mean for insurers, policymakers, and the courts?
In this timely webinar, world-renowned meteorologist Dr. Kerry Emanuel will examine the scientific tools commonly used to assess climate risk, focusing on hurricanes. He will explain what the research shows about how climate change may affect hurricane activity, intensity, rainfall, and associated hazards, while also addressing the uncertainties and limitations that remain. Dr. Emanuel will also talk about the science of attribution and its possible implication for court cases.
Dr. Kerry Emanuel
Professor, Emeritus of Atmospheric Science, MIT
Dr. Emanuel is a post-tenure professor of atmospheric science at MIT, where he was on the faculty from 1981 to 2022. His specialty is hurricane physics. Dr. Emanuel is the author or co-author of over 300 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and three books, including Divine Wind: The History and Science of Hurricanes, published by Oxford University Press
and aimed at a general audience, and What We Know about Climate Change, published by the MIT Press and now entering its third edition.
