Susan Lyon-Hintze

Susan Lyon-Hintze is a solo-practicing privacy attorney. Ms. Lyon-Hintze
counsels clients from small start-ups to major online, advertising,
analytics, and mobile companies on a wide range of U.S. and international
data protection issues. Representative areas of expertise include CAN-SPAM,
the FTC Act, Children’s Online Privacy Protections Act (COPPA), data
security and data breach notice obligations, behavioral targeting and
advertising, online and mobile tracking and profiling, facial recognition
and biometrics, cloud computing strategy, big data, and legislative and
regulatory policy and outreach.
Ms. Lyon-Hintze formerly served as in-house privacy counsel with Microsoft
Corp., where she was the lead attorney responsible for U.S. and
international privacy law compliance for the global sales and marketing
divisions, entertainment division, and HR. Ms. Lyon-Hintze also led data
security compliance and incident response and handled legislative policy in
the areas of privacy, data security, and online safety. Prior to Microsoft
she was lead privacy counsel at Dell, Inc.
Ms. Lyon-Hintze is an active member of the International Association of
Privacy Professionals and an Adviser for the American Law institute’s
Restatement Third, Information Privacy Principles.
