Hank Dempsey

Hank Dempsey serves as Chief Counsel to the Assembly
Business, Professions and Consumer Protection Committee within the California
Legislature. The committee handles a wide variety of professional licensing and
consumer protection-related legislation, and is one of a small number of
committees which hear bills related to privacy and technology. Prior to his
current position, Hank has served in a variety of governmental staff roles in
the Assembly and with the Department of Toxic Substances Control, and in those
capacities often worked on matters related to consumer protection, privacy,
trade secrets and technology. He was also formerly an associate with Fenwick
& West LLP in Mountain View, CA, where he practiced corporate law primarily
on behalf of technology clients. 

Hank is a three-time graduate of U.C. Berkeley, holding a
Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, a Master’s Degree in Public Policy, and
a J.D. He is also the author of two published works: a co-authored chapter on
structuring transactions involving intellectual property for a 2008 CEB
publication, and a California Law Review article on campaign finance that won
the 2007 Thelen Marrin Prize.
