UPDATE FROM SAMUELSON CLINIC AND BCLB
Jennifer Urban ’00 and Ken Taymor, experts from two of Boalt’s centers and clinics present their cutting edge research. Established in 2001, the Samuelson Law, Technology & Pubic Policy Clinic was the first clinic in the nation to provide law students the opportunity to represent the public interest in sound technology policy through client advoccy and participation in leagislative, regulatory, litigation and technical standard setting activities. Since 2005, the Berkeley Center for Law and Business has pursued rigorous, relevant, and empirically-based research and education to inform students, policymakers, and the public. Hear Steve Weissman of the Center for Law, Energy & the Environment (CLEE), former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, CA Senior Policy Advisory Ken Alex, and Solaria VP David Hochschild discuss California Governor Jerry Brown’s pledge to quadruple local energy renewables by 2020 and create new jobs in the state. CLEE is working with Governor Brown’s office to identify the legal and policy barriers and solutions for achieving this goal. Under Governor Granholm, Michigan rose to fourth in the nation for solar industry jobs and first for clean energy patents. (One hour general MCLE credit)

Come learn how fluid recovery and cy pres relief can benefit the law school. These doctrines involve distribution of residual class action funds to someone other than victims of the alleged wrongdoing, often to a public interest cause related to the underlying litigation. Join District Judge Charles Breyer ’66, Kathryn Duke ’81, former director of the Public Health Trust, Angel Garganta ’92 and Jessica Pers ’77, who will examine the topic from the perspective of judges, lawyers, recipients, and administrators of cy pres relief.
