Upon graduating from Yale Law School in 1970, Professor Eleanor Swift served as a law clerk on the U.S. District Court in Hartford and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She practiced with the firm of Vinson & Elkins from 1974-1979 and then joined the Boalt faculty. During her 35-year career at Boalt, Swift taught Evidence and Civil Procedure, Advanced Evidence, Civil Justice Workshop, Legal Ethics and Community Law Practice at EBCLC. She received Boalt’s Rutter Award for Teaching Distinction and UC Berkeley’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Her leadership of faculty committees led to the development and improvement of every aspect of the law school’s clinical, skills and legal writing programs. She served as Associate Dean from 1998-2000 under Dean Herma Hill Kay. She also chaired the Committee on Professional Development of the Association of American Law Schools and the AALS Evidence Section. She has published in the field of Evidence, has co-authored an Evidence casebook, and is one of the Contributing Authors of the McCormick Evidence treatise.
