Over the past decade, lawmakers and regulators have sought to hold companies accountable for ensuring the safety of their online platforms. With the rise of generative AI, attention is shifting towards the ways that companies should prevent abusive content from being produced by tools like chatbots and media generators.
This course explores key issues at the intersection of online safety and generative AI, including the web of laws and regulations that may apply when companies enable users to host, create, share, or generate content on their services. Students will learn about different online harm types, content moderation and policy development, and technical strategies companies are adopting to protect users and mitigate their own legal and regulatory risk. Lastly, the course will cover how some of these foundational trust & safety concepts may be applied to the development and deployment of generative AI models and tools.
Emmie Tran is currently Managing Counsel and Head of Trust & Safety Legal at Adobe.
