This course explores the law governing lawyers with a primary focus on the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and a secondary focus on selected California rules. Our primary reading will be legal decision, ethics opinions and other materials that identified in the syllabus or posted on bcourses. Students must a copy of the ABA Model Rules (a recent edition, ideally the 2025 Edition).

Class discussions will amplify the material in the text. This course is interactive and requires participation in the form of class discussion and small-group exercises. For this reason, regular attendance is expected. Ten percent (10%) of the final grade will be determined by class participation.

Ms. Bomse is a litigator in private practice and a devotee of the rule of law and the United States constitution. She represents lawyers, law firms and clients in a wide variety of disputes involving professional negligence, fiduciary duties and breach of contract as well in disciplinary matters before the State Bar. She also counsels and advises lawyers and law firms concerning risk management and legal ethics
