Legal Research and Writing for LL.M. Students aims to provide a solid foundation in U.S. legal analysis and communication while teaching students the skills they need to maneuver skillfully through Berkeley Law and U.S. legal culture. This two-credit course teaches case analysis, research strategies, and effective written and oral communication methods. Students focus on predictive legal analysis and writing. The curriculum integrates research instruction with writing assignments. Students also learn basic U.S. legal citation requirements and form. Much of the learning in this course involves experiential exercises done in groups during class time. The collaborative aspect of this process greatly enhances student learning. As such, we strongly encourage students to attend class in real-time to the greatest extent possible.
Instruction takes place in small sections led by instructors with extensive legal practice experience. Over the course of the semester, students will prepare a series of research and writing assignments. They will receive extensive feedback on their writing, attend one-on-one conferences with the instructor, and develop revision skills.
On Wednesday, July 21st, class will be held from 4:00-8:00pm.
