This course examines the law of international trade, focusing principally on the law of the World Trade Organization and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. We will examine the rules restraining national restrictions on trade that address, among other things, tariff and non-tariff barriers, discrimination, regionalism, and safeguards. The course will also spend time considering the relationship between trade and other areas or social values, such as economic development, health and safety standards, human rights, and other facets of globalization.
