Philippe Nonet was born and raised in Belgium, where he earned his law degree (Doctorat en Droit) in 1961. He studied and taught in the sociology department at UC Berkeley before joining the Berkeley Law faculty in 1977. His principal area of expertise is jurisprudence.
Nonet was Charge de Cours at the Universite Catholique de Louvain from 1966 to 1970 and a visiting professor at the Universitat Bremen in 1981. He is the author of Administrative Justice and Law and Society in Transition (with Berkeley Law professor Phillip Selznick).
