John Hetland received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota, where he was first in his class, editor of the Law Review, a law clerk to a Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and Order of the Coif. Prior to joining the Boalt faculty in 1959, he engaged in general civil practice with a Minneapolis firm.
Hetland has published several books on real property security and litigation, including Land Security and Development; California Real Estate Secured Transactions; Secured Real Estate Transactions; Secured Real Property Transactions; and California Cases on Security Transactions in Land. He has been a visiting professor at Stanford and at the Universities of Singapore and Cologne.
