Fanna Gamal is a Clinical Supervisor in the Education Defense and Justice for Youth Clinic (EDJY) at the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC). The clinic represents youth at the intersection of the public education and juvenile legal systems. Students in the clinic provide direct representation in school discipline, special education and delinquency proceedings in Alameda County, CA.
Fanna joined EBCLC in 2016 as a legal fellow. In addition to supervising law students in the clinic, Fanna works with community-based organizations to advance the education and due process rights of students of color. Fanna has held research positions at the UC Berkeley Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society and her writing on the juvenile legal system, gender and policing has been published in the California Law Review and is forthcoming in the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law.
