Des Lafleur is a business attorney with more than a decade of years of experience consulting companies ranging from startups to blue chip businesses.
Lafleur helps clients protect, enforce, and exploit their intellectual property assets while mitigating risks. She first joined the clinic as a 2L in 2010 (when it was still the New Business Practicum). After serving as a Practicum associate in her 2L and 3L years, Lafleur became the Practicum’s first teaching fellow. Following her role as a fellow, she devoted her time to growing her boutique bi-coastal consulting practice, which she founded in 2013. Her practice focused on clients in creative industries and retail.
Lafleur returned to Berkeley Law as Deputy Attorney for the Clinic in 2017. She has helped the clinic to expand client roster and outreach, led new legal workshops, and made new connections with external organizations including the Multicultural Institute in Berkeley, the Mexican Consulate in Fresno, and the Fresno Area Hispanic Chamber. She has also served as a panelist, speaker, and moderator for various events and symposiums.
Now, as a Clinical Teaching Fellow, she has expanded the curriculum to include advertising, marketing, and privacy law. She oversees clients’ general business needs with particular depth in trademark, copyright, commercial transactions, and employment law matters. She also helps train and supervise students and attorneys to provide transactional business law help to clients.
Throughout her roles at Berkeley Law, Lafleur has helped startups, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs from a variety of sectors including apparel, cosmetics, construction, film, food and beverage, technology, and IoTs.
