After graduating from Berkeley Law, Babette Barton clerked for Chief Justice Phil S. Gibson of the California Supreme Court before joining the Berkeley Law faculty in 1961. She has served as chair of the Taxation Section of the California State Bar and as a member of the governing council of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law. She has been a visiting professor at UC Davis, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of San Diego law schools.
In 1997 the Berkeley Law Alumni Association conferred on her its highest honor: the Annual Citation Award. Barton has also received the 1997 Joanne M. Garvey Award, granted by the State Bar of California’s Taxation Section in recognition of “lifetime achievement and outstanding contribution in the field of tax law by a senior member of the California Tax Bar.”
Barton is the coauthor of two casebooks: Taxation of Income (1999) and Taxation of Business Enterprises (1998).
