Oral Advocacy Opportunities for LL.M.s

All LL.M. students are eligible to participate in the LL.M. International Arbitration Competition. Tryouts are held early in the Fall semester.

LL.M.s also might be eligible to compete in or coach:

  • the Jessup International Law Competition; and
  • the Vis International Arbitration Competition.

Tryouts for LL.M.s are held in late August or early September.

Please note that the Jessup and Vis competitions have strict eligibility rules. Before trying out, please check to see whether you are eligible to participate:

  • For the Jessup Competition, LL.M. students are eligible to compete if they have not previously engaged in the practice of law in any jurisdiction after having graduated from any type of law degree program; and have never participated as judge, either of Memorials or in any Oral Round, at any level of the Jessup Competition.
  • For the Vis Competition, “[n]o student who has been licensed to practice law is eligible to participate except with permission of a Director of the Moot. Students at bar preparation institutions who are simultaneously working in a law office must request a determination as to their eligibility to participate in the Moot.”
