Flyer for A Witches' Brew

William Shakespeare’s timeless classic takes center stage again — this time in a unique amalgamation of theatrical presentation and mock trial — at Freight & Salvage in downtown Berkeley on Sunday, April 30th, 2023.

Macbeth, a Scottish general, meets three Weird Sisters on the heath after defending the king against an insurrection, where he receives strange tidings about his future. He later returns to them for guidance and advice. The Sisters’ use of body parts in their ritual activities has subjected them to criminal prosecution but also opens up intriguing lines of defense focusing on religious freedom. You are the jury at this interactive trial, in which two stellar lawyers argue the case for and against the Weird Sisters and actors perform scenes from the Scottish play.

The UC Shakespeare Trial is a joint project of the New Swan Shakespeare Center at UC Irvine, Berkeley Law, Stanford Law, and UCI Law. Previous trials include Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, and Julius Caesar.
