At our networking presentation on May 30, we talked about building your network through attending events as well as identifying and reaching out to people who do the kind of work you want to do and requesting informational interview meetings, including what to do when you do not get a response to your inquiry.
On June 4, we discussed how to prepare for and conduct informational interviews, including using the TIARA framework when asking questions, moving from questions that establish your contact as an expert (Trend, Insight questions) before soliciting advice (Advice, Resources, Assignment questions).
However, the true value of networking lies in maintaining ongoing relationships with people who you can tap into for help in the future (whether you need career advice, job opportunities, professional collaborations, or chances to develop business. On Monday, we will be discussing how to keep in touch with the contacts you made while in Berkeley, building ongoing professional friendship. We hope you will join us!
