Berkeley Law students, faculty, and visiting scholars are invited to this lunch talk featuring Professor Kal Raustiala presenting his latest research on the recent history and current trajectory of the Law of the Sea—including China’s recent foray into the Arctic; the debate over deep seabed mining; the South China Sea dispute; and the human rights and environmental challenges present in the oceans—via a review of scholarship spanning maritime politics, history, and law.
Kal Raustiala is the Promise Institute Distinguished Professor of Comparative and International Law at UCLA Law School and Professor at the UCLA International Institute. He currently serves as Director of the UCLA Ronald W. Burkle Center for International Relations and Director of the International and Comparative Law Program. This event is sponsored by the Miller Institute for Global Challenges and the Law at UC Berkeley Law School and is moderated by Professor Katerina Linos, Miller Faculty Co-Director.
