Q&A: CA’s Racial Justice Act in Practice
Friday, November 4, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Defenders at Berkeley presents Evan Kulek, Deputy Public Defender at Contra Costa Public Defenders and Allee Rosenmayer, Deputy Public Defender at San Joaquin Public Defender. California’s 2020 Racial Justice Act made it possible for people to challenge their convictions if they can prove they were racially motivated. But are California’s courts recognizing this new law? Meet two public defenders who are leading the way in using the RJA to get post-conviction relief for clients convicted based on racist policing and racist trials.
