Profiles in Legal Courage: Civic Education and the Constitution

Friday, March 20, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm

On July 4, 2025, Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and Drexel Law Professor Lisa Tucker joined with former U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge J. Michael Luttig and others to launch a nation-wide campaign, We Hold These Truths, to improve civic education on the protections provided by the U.S. Constitution. Why was this campaign necessary? How can lawyers, judges and others use their expertise to enhance civil education? What kind of civil education is needed the most?

Please join us for a discussion with Dean Chemerinsky and Professor Tucker about their vision for civic education on the Constitution and how deepening public awareness of Constitutional principles can help make American democracy stronger.

The Conversations on Civil Justice series is supported by a gift from the AAJ’s Robert L. Habush Endowment.
